Informations about this deck :

Acquired by the British Museum in 1896, it was not until January 2022 that Stephen Mangan demonstrated that this Tarot, which was thought to be one and the same deck, is in fact composed of 2 different tarots.

26 cards having the characteristics of a type 2 TDM are attributed to the Lyons card maker named Claude Valentin (initials CV in the 2 de coupe), he would have practiced between 1637 and 1684.

The 52 other cards which are more similar to a type 1 TDM would have been made by another Lyons cardmaker named Guillaume Dubesset (signature of the cardmaker in the 2 of denier), he would have practiced around 1685.

This Tarot de Marseille is characterized by the inversion of the meaning of some arcana compared to the usual canon, it offers an unprecedented reading and understanding of the Tarot, stimulating the reader's reflection. This is the first time this game has been reissued since the 17th century.
